Kitchen Nightmares Epic Meltdown

By now you might have heard about the epic meltdown the owners of Amy's Baking Company in Scottsdale, AZ, had on both Kitchen Nightmares and Facebook this past week. If you haven't you can get the full details on Gawker and watch the show below. If you haven't, you are in for a treat!

Don't have time to watch? Here's the gist. This totally delusional couple runs a restaurant in an upscale strip mall. At first glance, it seems reasonably pleasant there. But on closer inspection, nearly everything is wrong. They treat their staff like crap, not letting anyone else touch the POS system causing all sorts of delays and mistakes and even going so far as to fire 100 employees in the last year or so and taking their servers' tips.

Amy runs the kitchen, but apparently can neither cook particularly well nor take criticism at all. When she's not serving up store-bought frozen ravioli or pizza with still-raw dough, she's shrieking obscenities and threatening to walk out. They've clearly never heard the maxim that the customer is always right. At Amy's, the customer gets cussed out if he dares to complain. On Kitchen Nightmares, you see them threaten to call the cops on a hapless customer who complains that he's waited an hour for his pizza.  A loud altercation between Amy's sugar daddy hubby Samy ensues when the customer tries to leave without paying for a pizza he has never received. When Amy's not behaving like a total nutter, she's apparently perpetrating frauds and doing time.

When two people make Gordon Ramsay look calm and collected, you know something is wrong. Ramsay ultimately got so fed up that he actually quit trying to help them and left. I don't usually watch this show, but if there are more episodes like this, I just might. We're talking very compelling TV here. These people are NUTS!

Better yet, the show kicked off a complete social media sh**storm in which this couple dug themselves deeper and deeper in a hole by swearing at all the "haters" and "disgusting pig people" who are trying to bring them down with bad yelp reviews and a long chain of comments on reddit. I am seriously addicted to these people. There is so much crazy that it just doesn't get old!

Breaking News:Alzheimer's linked to Type II Diabetes

I read something very scary today. No, the Kardashian's are not coming out with yet another show (or, at least I hope not). No, this is much, much worse. Type II diabetes sufferers are 2-3 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's. Consider this: there are 32MM people in the US with diabetes, the vast majority of whom have Type II, and that rate is rapidly increasing due to our ever-expanding national waistline. Add to that aging baby boomers, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

The Guardian's article makes the case that Alzeheimer's could well be Type III diabetes, and that it may well be the single worst side effect of a junk food rich diet. Wow, as if I needed another reason to get back on the healthy eating wagon!

We all know high sugar, high fat diets aren't good for us, but the data is really stacking up to show that it's not just about vanity. Clearly, I love tasty food, and I certainly eat my fair share of rich foods. But more than ever, I will be continuing my eternal struggle to balance my adventurous tastes with my desire to be healthy for long to come!

Thanks to Steve and Vikki!

If you were up bright and early this morning, you might have heard me on Steve and Vikki's morning show on B98.5. Vikki invited me on for her Chix Pix segment, and she highlighted Adventurous Tastes on her show and on the B98.5 website. See what they had to say here. I tried to record it, but alas, technical failure thwarted my attempts, so you'll just have to take my word for it! We discussed some of Atlanta's hidden gems and adventurous eats. I mentioned pupusas, which you can find at Rincon Latino or Tierra and Atlanta's hidden gem sushi restaurant, Sushi House Hayakawa. You can read my reviews of Rincon Latino and Sushi House Hayakawa in previous posts. I had a blast and enjoyed telling more people about the site. Thanks, Steve and Vikki!
